Pamet Area Trails

Growing up, I never spent much time in Truro. My family would often drive right through on our way to Provincetown. But during the pandemic, I developed a deep love for the town. I started visiting on weekends to pick up my pre-ordered bagels from the beloved Salty Market (which later expanded to become Bagel Hound). After grabbing my bagels, I'd explore the town with my family. We stumbled upon Truro Vineyards, Ballston Beach, the Atlantic Spice Co., Highland Lighthouse, and so many other spots. We even discovered the incredible Pamet Area Trails, one of the most underrated and beautiful hikes on Cape Cod!
The Pamet Area Trails begin at the parking lot near the Environmental Education Center at the end of North Pamet Road.
Parking lot directions can be found HERE
Parking GPS Coordinates are 42°00'04.9"N 70°01'31.9"W
After parking, cross the road to a set of stairs that lead you onto the dirt and sand trail.
The trail winds its way up to the eastern and western summits of Bearberry Hill.
The views from Bearberry Hill are spectacular, offering sweeping vistas of the Pamet River Valley, the Atlantic Ocean, and the glacial terrain below, as well as a historic bog house from the era of cranberry harvesting.
There is also a unique informational kiosk at the eastern summit which talks about the impact of erosion in the area.
The hike up Bearberry Hill is breathtaking, but for those wanting to explore more, there are an additional 2 miles of trails, making for a 4-5 mile round-trip hike.
I especially enjoy descending from Bearberry Summit, heading north through the forest, and following a sandy path to a private beach.
This beach is just north of Ballston Beach, but there is typically not a single person here due to the walking required.
There are also other trails leading to additional scenic overlooks, or routes that wind through the historic Pamet Cranberry Bog.
