Tomorrow is my birthday, so I decided to end my 26th year on this planet by doing something meaningful. I drove down to the Morris Island Causeway with my buckets and picker to collect any trash I could find. Removing beach trash from this area is a cause I am deeply passionate about because it’s a place I often visit in the summer for swimming and where my family harvests clams and oysters. Keeping this area pristine is very important to me and many others.
During this trip, I was able to remove a significant amount of plastic, Styrofoam, and aluminum, along with a few glass bottles. I even found a large abandoned shellfish basket. I left the basket by the roadside and contacted a town employee to have it removed and hopefully reused.
